BNP leaders and activists gathered along the Dhaka–Mymensingh highway in Gazipur’s Sreepur on Saturday to welcome Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on his way to Trishal, Mymensingh, to attend a program marking the 127th birth anniversary of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
More than 300 leaders and activists, led by Sreepur municipality BNP Senior Joint Convener Anwar Bepari, assembled at C&B Bazar No 1 in Sreepur municipality from Saturday morning.
Leaders and activists were seen carrying banners, festoons and party flags while chanting slogans welcoming Tarique Rahman.
Gazipur-3 MP Prof Dr SM Rafiqul Islam Bachchu also greeted the party leaders and activists gathered at the spot.
Sreepur upazila Jubo Dal Member Secretary Advocate Rajibul Alam Bepari said leaders and activists had been waiting on the highway since morning to welcome Tarique Rahman, while processions from different areas continued to arrive.
Sreepur municipality BNP Senior Joint Convener Anwar Bepari said the country was moving forward under Tarique Rahman’s leadership and claimed that initiatives such as family cards and agricultural cards for farmers had increased his popularity among the public.
