He made the remarks on Monday while briefing journalists after a meeting on ensuring a smooth and safe Eid journey at the Secretariat

Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Sheikh Rabiul Alam has said that this year’s Eid journey will be challenging due to the possibility of rainfall.

He made the remarks on Monday while briefing journalists after a meeting on ensuring a smooth and safe Eid journey at the Secretariat.

The minister said, “Although a staggered holiday plan was introduced last time, it was not fully implemented. As a result, a huge number of people left the capital on the same day. In Gazipur and surrounding areas alone, there was pressure of around 10 to 15 lakh passengers.”

He added, “During Eid, many passengers try to travel quickly to their villages and often board any available transport without following rules. As fewer people purchase tickets from bus terminals, disorder and traffic congestion occur on the roads, increasing the risk of accidents.”

To manage the situation, he said 69 mobile courts will be deployed this time.

On the weather issue, the minister said, “The situation may become more difficult due to weather conditions. If it rains, traffic congestion is likely to worsen, especially due to pressure from vehicles carrying sacrificial animals.”

He also noted that deploying sufficient police personnel becomes challenging in adverse weather conditions.
