The High Court has granted bail to former Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor in connection with two murder cases filed with Mirpur and Ramna police stations in the capital.
A High Court bench comprising Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher delivered the verdict on Sunday, making absolute an earlier rule issued in favour of Noor’s bail petition.
Advocates Z I Khan Panna and Barrister Rehan appeared in court on behalf of Asaduzzaman Noor, while Deputy Attorney General Shaila Sharmin and Assistant Attorney General Md Alamin represented the state and opposed the bail plea.
Earlier, police had sought to show Noor and former Civil Aviation and Tourism state minister Mahbub Ali arrested and kept in custody in connection with the murder case of Siyam Sardar (17), filed with Mirpur Police Station.
According to case documents, the case was filed on September 12, 2024, over the killing of teenager Siyam Sardar in the Mirpur area of Dhaka on July 18, 2024. The complaint was lodged by the victim’s father Sohag Sardar, naming former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 114 others as accused, including Asaduzzaman Noor.
Noor was arrested from Bailey Road in Dhaka on the night of September 15, 2024.
The following day on September 16, a Dhaka court ordered Noor and Mahbub Ali to be sent to jail in connection with the Mirpur murder case.
The order was issued by Metropolitan Magistrate Mosharraf Hossain of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court in Dhaka.
