Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday called for increasing use of modern water and wastewater treatment technologies for sustainable development.
He made these remarks at a meeting with Chief Executive Officer of Chennai-based multinational water technology company VA Tech Wabag Limited Shailesh Kumar in his office at the Secretariat on Thursday, said a ministry press release.
The minister said the government is giving emphasis on timely implementation of the projects and maintaining quality.
The meeting discussed in details the country’s water management, water purification process and ensuring the standard of safe drinking water.
The meeting particularly discussed the water quality of the Buriganga River when the minister said the government is taking effective initiatives to prevent pollution in the country’s rivers.
Local Government Division Secretary Shahidul Hasan and senior officials of the ministry were present.
