The United States has donated 6 lakh U.S.-manufactured GeneXpert kits for tuberculosis (TB) testing, along with 11,000 pediatric TB medication courses to the Government of Bangladesh.
U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen formally handed over the supplies to Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain at a programme held at the 250-bed TB Hospital in Shyamoli, Dhaka on Thursday.
Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Professor Dr Provat Chandra Biswas was present, among others.
The donation comes at a time of critical supply shortages and underscores the United States’ continued commitment to strengthening global health security. It is part of a new five-year framework aimed at expanding bilateral health cooperation between the two countries.
