Former Deputy Minister for Education Ghulam Sarwar Milon has passed away. He was 69.
Family sources said that he breathed his last in the capital after Fajr prayers on Sunday.
Milon served as deputy minister for education from 1986 to 1987 and represented the Manikganj-4 constituency in parliament from 1986 to 1990. He also served as chairman of the Manikganj District Council.
He began his political career as the founding central president of Jatiyatabadi Chhatradal in 1981–82. Emerging through student politics at the University of Dhaka, he later rose to prominence in national politics.
He also served as a presidium member of the Jatiya Party and was most recently acting chairman of the Bangladesh Janata Party.
Milon is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
His death has prompted an outpouring of grief in political circles, with leaders from various political, social and cultural organisations expressing condolences and praying for the peace of his departed soul.
