A total of 2,812 pilgrims departed for Saudi Arabia on Friday to perform this year’s Hajj. Of them, 1,647 travelled on four flights operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines, while 1,165 flew on three Saudi Airlines flights.
This year’s Hajj flights commenced on Friday night, with the formal inauguration held at around 11:30pm at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman officially launched the Hajj flight operations.
The information was provided in the Hajj bulletin.
According to the bulletin, a total of 78,500 pilgrims from Bangladesh are expected to perform Hajj this year under both government and private arrangements. Of them, 4,565 will travel under the government scheme, while 73,935 will go through private management.
This year, 660 agencies are involved in managing Hajj under private arrangements, including 30 lead agencies and 630 coordinating agencies.
A total of 78,139 pilgrims have so far received visas. The total number of flights scheduled for transporting pilgrims includes 100 by Biman Bangladesh Airlines, 75 by Saudi Airlines, and 30 by Flynas Airlines.
Subject to moon sighting, the holy Hajj is expected to be held in Saudi Arabia on May 26.
