Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated across Bangladesh on Saturday with festivity and religious fervor.

The main congregation was held at the Jatiya Eidgah in the capital at 8:34 am.

The Eid prayers were led by Mufti Mohammad Abdul Malek, khatib of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman joined the main congregation at the National Eidgah.

A special munajat was offered after the prayers, seeking Allah’s blessings for peace, progress, and prosperity of Bangladesh, as well as the welfare of its people and the Muslim Ummah.

Cabinet members, lawmakers, senior political leaders, high-ranking civil and military officials, and people from different walks of life also attended the congregation.

Earlier on Friday, the Prime Minister greeted the nation on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr, expressing hope that the joy of the festival would reach every home.

In a video message, he said that after a month of fasting, Eid-ul-Fitr has arrived with a message of unity, solidarity, compassion, and joy for the Muslim Ummah.

“May the joy of Eid reach every home and every family. Let us be inspired by the ideals of Ramadan and share the happiness of the festival with one another,” he said.

Meanwhile, one of the largest Eid congregation of the country was held at the Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj amid tight security.

A large congregation was also held at Gor-e-Shahid Maidan in Dinajpur, where thousands of worshippers offered Eid prayers.

The Dinajpur Eidgah, spread over 22 acres, is considered one of the largest in South Asia in terms of area, although attendance was slightly affected by overnight rainfall, according to reports.

In Dhaka’s Mirpur, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and opposition leadet Dr Shafiqur Rahman offered Eid prayers and exchanged greetings with worshippers.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast rain or thundershowers with gusty winds across the country over the next five days, including on Eid day, with a chance of hail in some areas.
