Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizens Party (NCP) and chief whip of the opposition, has called on citizens to set aside their differences and come together for the upcoming Eid celebrations.
In a post shared on his verified Facebook account on Thursday, Nahid noted that continuing last year’s tradition, a three-day Eid festival will once again be organised in the capital through civic efforts.
He welcomed the initiative, describing it as positive news for city residents weary of the pressures of fast-paced urban life.
According to the announcement, the programme will begin with a Mehendi festival on the night of the moon sighting, followed by a colourful Eid procession after Eid prayers. A kite festival will be held on the following day.
He said such events help revive a cultural heritage that spans more than 500 years.
He urged residents of the capital to participate wholeheartedly in the festivities, putting aside divisions and celebrating the occasion in a spirit of unity and togetherness.
