Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Acting Commissioner Md Sarwar has announced that trucks and covered vans will not be allowed to operate before and after the upcoming Eid al-Fitr to reduce traffic congestion.
Speaking at a meeting with bus owners and workers at Gabtoli Bus Terminal on Saturday, he assured that no unfit or overloaded buses would be allowed on the roads. Help desks will be set up for passengers to ensure a smooth and hassle-free Eid journey, and operations will continue to prevent unsafe buses from running.
The DMP commissioner said additional police personnel will be deployed at terminals to serve passengers, with Counter Terrorism Unit, RAB, and plainclothes officers maintaining security.
He also requested garment factories to grant workers leave in phases to avoid excessive travel congestion.
To ensure passenger safety, heavily armed police will be stationed, and regular security operations will be conducted at various terminals. Measures will also be taken to prevent fare hikes and ticket black-marketing.
Md Sarwar further urged bus operators not to assign multiple drivers per bus or carry passengers on the roofs of buses.
