Mobile and online transaction restrictions imposed ahead of the national parliamentary election have been lifted, allowing customers of bKash, Nagad and Rocket to resume normal transactions.
According to a decision of Bangladesh Bank, the four-day restrictions on mobile financial services (MFS) and internet banking were withdrawn after 12am on Friday.
As a result, the previous limits on person-to-person (P2P) transactions have also been lifted.
The central bank had imposed the special restrictions from the night of February 8 to prevent the misuse of money during the election.
Under the directive, a maximum of Tk1,000 could be sent per MFS transaction and no more than 10 P2P transactions were allowed per day. At the same time, P2P transactions through internet banking under the National Payment Switch Bangladesh were temporarily suspended.
However, merchant payments and utility and service bill payments were not affected and continued as usual.
During the restriction period, many customers faced difficulties in making financial transactions, particularly in sending and receiving money for urgent needs.
Central bank sources said the restrictions were lifted after reviewing the situation following the completion of the stipulated 96 hours. From now on, P2P transactions through MFS and internet banking will operate under the previous normal rules.
