A BNP leader has been expelled from the party in Naogaon for allegedly engaging in anti-organizational activities.
The decision was conveyed in a letter signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Wednesday night (January 21).
The expelled leader is Parvez Arefin Siddiqui Jony, who is contesting the 13th National Parliamentary Election as an independent candidate from the Naogaon-3 (Badalgachhi–Mahadebpur) constituency with the pitcher symbol.
He is the son of former Deputy Speaker Akhtar Hamid Siddiqui. The expulsion letter identified him as a former member of the Mahadebpur upazila BNP.
Although the letter did not specify the reasons in detail, party sources said Jony was expelled for defying party decisions by contesting the upcoming election against the BNP nominee in the Naogaon-3 constituency.
According to the party statement, he was expelled from BNP, including his primary membership and all posts, under Article 5 (Ga) of the party constitution for engaging in anti-organisational activities in violation of party discipline.
When contacted, Parvez Arefin Siddiqui Jony said he had not received any official notice of the expulsion and had only heard about it informally.
“Expulsion is a continuing process. Legally, they will expel me since I am contesting against the Sheaf of Paddy. However, there will be candidates and competition, because elections are a democratic right,” he said.
