The body of 19-year-old student was recovered from a rented flat in Mirpur-10 on Saturday morning, police said.

The deceased was identified as Sanjana Islam Mim, daughter of Shawkat Mridha from Chandkhali village in Barguna Sadar Upazila. She was a second-year intermediate student at Mirpur English Version School and College, said Inspector Md Faruk of Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police Outpost

The body was found around 6:30am. Sanjana was first taken to a local hospital and later was taken to DMCH emergency department where she was pronounced dead.

Sanjana’s elder brother, Sakhawat Hossain, said she was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her room, with a scarf tied around her neck. “We found her after she did not respond to calls, and broke the door to rescue her,” he said.

Sakhawat added that Sanjana had been in a relationship with a boy, and those close to her believe a dispute with him may have led to her apparent death by suicide

Inspector Md Faruk said the body was kept at the hospital morgue and the matter was reported to the relevant police station.
