17-year-old schoolgirl found dead in Banasree flat

The body has been sent to DMCH morgue for an autopsy

Police recovered the throat-slit body of 17-year-old schoolgirl Fatema Akter Nili from a flat in Block L of South Banasree of the capital on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Nili, a class 10 student at Radiant School and daughter of Sajib Mia, a hotel businessman. The family’s ancestral home is in the Lakhai Police Station area of Habiganj district.

Md Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Khilgaon Police Station, told Dhaka Tribune that Nili’s throat had been slit and the killing likely occurred between 1pm and 3:30pm Saturday.

The body was discovered around 4pm. following a tip through the national emergency service 999. The incident is being treated as a suspected murder, though the identity of the perpetrator or perpetrators remains unknown.

Further details were yet to be confirmed and an investigation was ongoing, added the OC.

The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
