Police have arrested Imam Yasin Arafat, the prime suspect in the killing and burning of garment worker Dipu Chandra Das in Bhaluka, Mymensingh.
Yasin was arrested on Wednesday afternoon from the Sarulia area of Demra in Dhaka with the assistance of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
Mymensingh Additional Superintendent of Police Abdullah Al Mamun said that on the night of December 18, Yasin gathered people at the gate of Valuka’s Pioneer Factory by chanting slogans and incited the crowd by exploiting religious sentiments. He allegedly assaulted Dipu and later dragged his body to the Square Masterbari area, where the body was tied to a tree and set on fire.
Police said Yasin had been in hiding since the incident.
So far, 21 people have been arrested in connection with the murder, and nine have given confessional statements under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
