Following Friday prayers, heightened security has been deployed around the Prothom Alo office in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka.
Members of the army, police and Ansar were seen maintaining alert positions on-site.
This scene was observed on Friday during an on-ground visit to the Prothom Alo office in Karwan Bazar.
The precautionary measures follow acts of vandalism and arson at the Prothom Alo building in Karwan Bazar last night, carried out after the death of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of the Inquilab Mancha.
Consequently, additional security was stationed around the newspaper’s office after Friday prayers.
After the prayers, army personnel requested people to keep clear of the premises and positioned themselves around the Prothom Alo office.
Ansar members were deployed in front of the metro station gate adjacent to the office. Police and CID personnel also cordoned off the area with tape marked “Crime Scene” and maintained their presence around the building.
When asked whether there was still any security risk and if additional measures had been taken, Md Ibne Mizan, deputy commissioner (DC) of Tejgaon Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police that their CID team is conducting work at the site.
“We are ensuring no one enters the area so the team can operate without obstruction. The army was already present, but now some senior officers have joined as well,” he added.
Earlier in the day, Bangladesh Police Inspector General Baharul Alam inspected the damaged Prothom Alo building in Karwan Bazar.
