New Age Editor Nurul Kabir was harassed by a group of individuals in front of the English daily The Daily Star building in Farmgate, Dhaka.

On Thursday night, a group of protesters vandalised The Daily Star office and set it on fire. Following the incident, Nurul Kabir—also the president of the executive committee of the Editors’ Council, an organization of newspaper editors—went to the scene. While attempting to stop the attackers, he came under attack himself.

Several videos of the incident have circulated on social media. The footage shows a young man pushing him amid the crowd, while he is verbally abused and called an “Awami League collaborator.” In one clip, a person is also seen pulling his hair while shoving him.

Earlier that night, after news spread of the death of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, a section of protesters went to The Daily Star building in Farmgate and vandalised the English daily’s office. At one stage, the building was set on fire, leaving many of the newspaper’s journalists trapped inside.
