Jatiya Chhatra Shakti burns home adviser's effigy, plans symbolic funeral

Hadi's attackers must be arrested, says Jatiya Chhatra Shakti President Zahid Ahsan

Update : 18 Dec 2025, 08:14 PM

Jatiya Chhatra Shakti, the student wing of the National Citizen Party (NCP), staged a protest on Thursday, burning an effigy of Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and announcing plans for a symbolic funeral, demanding his resignation over his failure to arrest the attackers of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi and the “deterioration of public security.”

The protest march began at Shahbagh intersection in Dhaka at 5pm and proceeded through the Teacher-Student Center (TSC) and the vice chancellor’s residence before returning to TSC for a brief rally.

At the rally, Jatiya Chhatra Shakti President Zahid Ahsan said, Hadi's attackers must be arrested. Sheikh Hasina's trial will happen in Bangladesh, but not through Jahangir's hands. “We are not making any demands to Jahangir for arrests because he is unfit for this position. You cannot make demands to an irresponsible home adviser.”

Ahsan also announced that a funeral in absentia for the home adviser will be held on Friday after Asr prayers. He criticized those who issued a 48-hour ultimatum to free Jahangir, saying they have disappeared despite the deadline passing, leaving no trace of their whereabouts.
