Dr Zubaida Rahman, wife of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman is scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on Friday, BNP Chairperson and former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia to London Bridge Hospital in the United Kingdom for advanced medical treatment, according to a post on BNP’s official Facebook page on Thursday.
The party said Khaleda will be flown to London on an air ambulance provided by the Qatari royal family.
BNP stated that Dr Zubaida has been closely coordinating Khaleda Zia’s medical procedures from London and is now returning to accompany her personally.
Meanwhile, Tarique's adviser Mahdi Amin in post on his verified Facebook account, said Khaleda Zia, despite showing some improvement, had been advised to seek treatment at a specialized hospital in London to ensure the most advanced care. He noted that Zubaida had been overseeing the entire medical process from abroad.
Mahdi also mentioned that Zubaida is attempting to leave London Thursday to reach Dhaka on Friday morning, from where she is expected to accompany the BNP chief on the specially equipped air ambulance.
He however, added that alternative plans were ready in case the air ambulance schedule required departure before Zubaida’s arrival. In such a situation, London-based specialist Dr Richard Bill—already in Dhaka—along with Khaleda Zia’s daughter-in-law Sharmila Rahman, several doctors, and party officials will accompany her instead.
According to Mahdi, Tarique Rahman is supervising all aspects of the ongoing arrangements, including regular communication with the medical board in Dhaka, coordination with specialized hospitals and physicians in London, preparations of the air ambulance, and overall travel and logistical planning.
