Brac has announced an initial support package of Tk 50 lakh for families affected by the devastating fire in Korail.
“Brac staff are on the ground assessing the damage and providing essential support to affected families to help them regain a sense of normalcy as soon as possible,” a press release issued on Wednesday said.
To stand beside those whose lives have been upended by this sudden disaster, contributions can be made via bKash to 01730321765, the release added. Donations can also be made to Brac’s account (01501202316474001) at Brac Bank’s Gulshan Avenue branch.
The fire broke out in the Korail slum at around 5:30 pm on Tuesday. Firefighters worked extensively to bring the blaze under control, but many homes had already been reduced to ashes.
Brac has a long history of supporting people affected by disasters. In Korail and other Dhaka slums, the organisation has previously provided cash and other assistance following fires and emergencies.
In addition to immediate relief, Brac continues to offer support tailored to each crisis and the needs of the local community, while working to strengthen people’s ability to cope with future emergencies, the release said.
