A low-pressure system over the South Andaman Sea and adjoining area has intensified into a well-marked low over the same region at 6am on Sunday.
It is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify further, said a special bulletin of the Met Office.
All fishing boats and trawlers in the north Bay have been advised not to venture into the deep sea till further notice.
