Nasir Uddin Nasir, central general secretary of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, has condemned the aggressive and improper behavior of several Ducsu leaders towards the treasurer of Dhaka University.
In a Facebook post on Monday, he said: “The way several Ducsu leaders behaved aggressively and improperly with the Treasurer of Dhaka University is highly condemnable. The incident has tarnished the image of the students of Dhaka University.”
He further mentioned: “The treasurer was an active organizer of the July mass uprising. He stood as a shield in front of the students. Imposing undue pressure on the current Treasurer by blaming him for the mismanagement of the previous administration is unstudentlike and conscienceless behavior.”
Nasir said that using the Ducsu designation to “apply mob rule on the university teachers is undesirable.” He called on the concerned leaders to address their demands in a procedural and dialogue-based manner.
Emphasizing the priority of ensuring students’ safety and academic environment on the Dhaka University campus, the general secretary further said: “It is urgent for the administration and law enforcement agencies to remove vagrants, destitutes, drug-addicted or mentally unstable, and severely diseased people from the university campus. They pose a serious threat, especially to female students’ safety.”
He also called for adequate lighting arrangements on campus and the formulation of precise regulations for shop operations.
Nasir said: “Those who have been running permanent or temporary shops on campus for a long time should not be evicted without proper procedure. The administration should quickly take policy decisions to bring the shops within a framework; otherwise, new disorder will be created.”
