Police seek Siddique’s remand in murder case

Investigation officer of Gulshan police station, Sub-Inspector Md Samiul Islam, submitted a 10-day remand petition

After being placed on remand in a case filed over the attempted murder of a rickshaw-puller during the July Uprising, police have now sought a 10-day remand for actor Md Siddiqur Rahman in another case over the killing of furniture worker Parvez Bepari under Gulshan police station.

A Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court is scheduled to hold a hearing on the matter on Wednesday.

Earlier, on August 20, the court granted a petition to show Siddique arrested in the case. Later, on August 27, investigation officer of Gulshan police station Sub-Inspector Md Samiul Islam submitted a 10-day remand petition. The court then fixed September 3 for the hearing. Siddique will be produced before the court today for the hearing.

On April 29, a group of youths beat up actor Siddique on Bailey Road, branding him an associate of the Awami League, and handed him over to Ramna police station. The following day, he was placed on a seven-day remand in the case filed over the attempted murder of Gulshan rickshaw-puller Jabbar Ali Howlader. After completion of the remand, he was sent to jail.

According to the case documents, during the July Uprising on July 19, 2024, Parvez Bepari 23, a furniture worker, joined the protest with his friends in front of Subastu Tower in Gulshan. After Friday prayers, he was shot and injured by the accused. He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Following the incident, the victim’s father, Md Sabuj, filed a case with Gulshan police station on July 2 last year.
