Rain has caused breaches in the embankments of the Muhuri and Chhoto Feni rivers in Feni

Update : 09 Jul 2025, 12:35 PM

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department issued a warning on Wednesday, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in four divisions, including Dhaka.

According to the alert, due to active southwest monsoon conditions, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places in Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna and Barisal divisions within the 24 hours from 10am.

The warning also cautioned that very heavy rainfall may trigger landslides in some hilly areas of Chittagong division.

In addition, temporary waterlogging may occur in parts of Dhaka, Chittagong and Khulna metropolitan areas due to the persistent rainfall.

Meanwhile, continuous rain coupled with upstream flow from India has caused breaches in the embankments of the Muhuri and Chhoto Feni rivers in Feni.

As a result, at least 25 villages in the upazilas of Fulgazi, Parshuram and Sonagazi have been inundated.

Prolonged rainfall has also raised concerns of a possible flood in Noakhali.

Rural roads across the district, including those in the district headquarters, have already gone under water, submerging various offices and government establishments.
