The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast that thunderstorms and rain may occur in 8 regions, including the capital Dhaka, by 6pm on Sunday.

According to the BMD, the monsoon, which had been inactive for some time, is now becoming active again, making rain likely in various parts of the country, including Dhaka.

Meteorologist Md Omar Faruk said: “Rain may occur in different parts of the country, including Dhaka, by noon today. This may cause a slight drop in temperature.”

He added: “Although rain is expected in various areas of the country today, the likelihood of rain in the Rajshahi region is low. However, rainfall may increase in the next couple of days.”

In a weather forecast issued for inland river ports from 9am to 6pm on Sunday, it was stated that Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong, Rajshahi, and Sylhet regions may experience temporary rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty or squally winds blowing from the south/southeast at speeds of 45–60 kilometres per hour.

River ports in these areas have been advised to hoist cautionary signal number 1.
