Households across the country are expected to face higher prices for most plastic items in the upcoming fiscal year, following a government decision to increase the value-added tax (VAT) on these products.
The VAT rate on plastic tableware, kitchenware, household items, hygiene products, and toiletries has been doubled from 7.5% to 15%, a move announced as part of the new fiscal policy.
Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed presented the proposed budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year, amounting to Tk7,89,999 crore, in a televised speech on Monday.
