A larger screen may now cost less, as VAT is exempted for monitors up to 30 inches in the announced budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year.
Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed presented the proposed budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year, amounting to Tk7,89,999 crore, in a televised speech on Monday.
Previously, the VAT exemption limit at the manufacturing and business levels was limited to 22 inches.
Aslam Hossain, deputy manager of Corporate Sales at UCC Computers BD, told Dhaka Tribune: “If the cost of the monitor decreases for us, we will be able to pass on the savings to our customers.”
Mahfuzur Rahman Mukul, assistant general manager of Media and Communication at Smart Technologies, also told Dhaka Tribune: “Obviously, this will have an impact on the market. Distributors who operate properly will benefit from this change.”
Mahfuz is also expecting a cost decrease on the consumer level.
“They will get a product with a warranty at a lower cost,” he said.
