Update : 02 Jun 2025, 06:35 PM

The interim government has proposed recognizing the economic value of unpaid household work by homemakers, with steps to be taken to explore methods for incorporating their contributions into the calculation of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the future.

Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed presented the proposed budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year, amounting to Tk7,89,999 crore, in a televised speech on Monday.

The budget targets a GDP growth rate of 5.5%, with a projected deficit of Tk2,66,000 crore, equivalent to 3.6% of the total budget.

Inflation is expected to be contained at 6.5%, while the Annual Development Program (ADP) is set at Tk2,30,000 crore.

Authorities have described the fiscal plan as contractionary in nature.
