Airport immigration police arrested Chittagong North District Awami League leader Alhaj Gias Uddin at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka early Friday upon his return from the United States.
He was taken into custody at 5am while traveling back from the US with his wife, in connection with a case filed at Mirsharai police station, police said.
Gias Uddin's wife, Tahmina Gias, said that they were returning home after an extended stay in the US. Upon disembarking from the plane, Gias Uddin was detained by immigration police.
After notifying Mirsharai police station, authorities escorted him to Chittagong.
