Moitree Jatra: Women to take the streets to protest violence, discrimination Friday

The march will take place at 3pm on Friday in front of the National Parliament

A rally, “Moitree Jatra: In Response to Women’s Call” is set to be held to protest against discrimination and oppression.

The march will take place at 3pm on Friday, on Manik Mia Avenue, in front of the National Parliament.

The organizers of Moitree Jatra shared the information in a statement issued on Wednesday.

The press release said that although the fall of autocracy in July 2024 marked a political shift, systemic injustice, violence against women, and state inaction persist. Since the release of the Women’s Reform Commission report, there has been a coordinated effort to reject its findings and discredit demands for justice and dignity.

The organizers of the gathering strongly reject this dishonest narrative, which they say fuels further discrimination and violence.

Despite continued protests, the state has remained unresponsive. The organizers emphasize that what is needed now is unity, vigilance, and collective resistance—because this is not just a fight for women, but a fight for Bangladesh’s future.

It added that “Moitree Jatra: In Response to Women’s Call" is being organized to raise awareness, demand government accountability, and create inclusive spaces for dialogue beyond extremism. Above all, it aims to assure women and marginalized communities that they are not alone. Even if they are not on the streets every day, their struggle for equal rights and dignity continues.

The initiative brings together women from all walks of life: activists, students, garment workers, domestic workers, indigenous and Dalit women, non-Bengalis, sex workers, people with disabilities, and members of gender-diverse communities.

The gathering is being organized through volunteer efforts and public support, reflecting a shared urgency in the face of injustice.
