Chhatra Dal on Wednesday announced protests at all educational institutions across the country, demanding justice for the murder of Shahriar Alam Shammo, a student of Dhaka University and a leader of the organization, and the resignation of the university’s vice-chancellor.
Unidentified assailants stabbed Shammo, a student of the 2018–19 session at the Institute of Education and Research (IER) and the literary and publication secretary of the AF Rahman Hall unit of Chhatra Dal, to death on campus, on the road adjacent to the Muktamanch area of Suhrawardy Udyan, the previous night.
Strongly condemning the killing, Chhatra Dal said in the press release that protest marches and rallies would be held at all educational institutions across the country to demand the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of Shammo’s killers.
Chhatra Dal had also held a demonstration on the DU campus after the killing, chanting various slogans, demanding justice and a safe campus.
Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib, General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir and other central leaders were present during the protest.
