July-August massacre: Probe report against Hasina submitted

Hasina named as issuing July crackdown orders during student protests

An investigation report has been submitted by the International Crimes Tribunal's Investigation Agency against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina in connection with the July-August massacre centering the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

On Monday, officials of the investigation agency submitted the report to the Chief Prosecutor's Office.

According to sources, the investigation report names Sheikh Hasina as the one who gave the directive for the July massacre.

Earlier, on May 9 in the afternoon, Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal, Mohammad Tazul Islam, said in a Facebook post: “The investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunal is expected to submit the investigation report against Sheikh Hasina regarding the July massacre to the chief prosecutor on Monday. Once the investigation report is submitted, formal charges will be filed, marking the official commencement of the trial proceedings against Hasina.”

He further said: “In the meantime, the investigation report has already been submitted against senior police officers for their responsibility in the Chankharpul massacre. Formal charges in connection with that incident will be submitted within this week, and through this, the formal trial of the July massacre will begin, In Shah Allah.”
