Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Company Bangladesh Limited on Sunday dismissed its 18 engineers for disobeying service rules following a week-long unrest.

The nuclear power plant authority also instructed the dismissed officials to leave the project area and its residential multi-storied building, Green City, the same day and not re-enter.

Project Site In-Charge Ruhul Kuddus confirmed the news of the termination to BSS over the phone.

Earlier, on Thursday, Md Jahedul Hasan, managing director of NPCBL (Nuclear Power Plant Company Bangladesh Limited), issued the termination orders in this regard.

The termination letters were delivered via email to the Rooppur project site office on Friday.

The dismissals followed a prolonged period of agitation at the project site.

From April 28 to May 6, a section of NPCBL engineers staged protests, held human chains and rallies, reportedly demanding better service conditions and the removal of its managing director.
