BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has expressed deep shock and sorrow at the passing of former lawmaker Saleha Khanam, who died at 10:20pm Thursday night at Evercare Hospital in the capital.
Saleha Khanam was the mother of Lutfar Rahman Kajol, secretary of the BNP National Executive Committee's Fishermen Affairs and a former member of parliament.
In a condolence message issued on Friday, the BNP acting chairman said that as an ideal mother, she raised her children to be well-educated and well-mannered.
He noted that she was widely respected as a pious woman and a steadfast follower of the principles and ideals of former president Ziaur Rahman.
Tarique Rahman added that her dedication to public welfare earned her the trust and support of the local people, who elected her as a member of parliament.
He further said that she was known for her generosity towards the helpless and that the example she set as a mother will continue to inspire her children.
He prayed for strength and patience for the bereaved family in coping with this loss and sought forgiveness for the departed soul.
He also extended his heartfelt condolences to her family members, relatives, and well-wishers.
