Teachers and students of Jagannath University (JnU) submitted memorandums to the embassies of the United States and Saudi Arabia, as well as to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, urging an end to the Israeli genocide in Gaza and the ongoing war.
The memorandums were submitted around 11am on Thursday following the conclusion of the "March for Palestine" program, which began at the university’s Central Shaheed Minar.
The delegation was led by Associate Professor Dr Bilal Hossain, joint general secretary of the Jagannath University Teachers' Association.
Dr Bilal Hossain said the association leaders and student representatives submitted memorandums with four demands to the US and Saudi embassies, including an end to the Israeli military’s genocide in Gaza and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
Additionally, a separate memorandum with seven demands—including the reinstatement of the phrase “except Israel” on Bangladeshi passports—was submitted to the foreign affairs adviser of the Bangladesh government.
He expressed hope that the Bangladesh government, along with the US and Saudi embassies, would play a significant role in implementing the demands outlined in the memorandums submitted on behalf of the JnU Teachers' Association.
Among those present during the submission were Professor Dr Mohammad Nurullah, Professor Dr Abu Layek, Tarek Bin Atique, President of JnU unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir Asadul Islam, Senior Joint Convener of JnU unit of Chhatra Dal Zafar Ahmed, Convener of the JnU unit of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Masud Rana, Spokesperson Naushin Nawar Joya, and Organizing Secretary of the Student Rights Council Tawhid Hossain.
