Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed said on Sunday that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has expressed satisfaction with the recent progress in Bangladesh's economy.

“The IMF team has observed that the country’s economy is heading in the right direction,” he told reporters after a meeting with the visiting IMF delegation at the Secretariat.

Regarding the next disbursements of the IMF loan, Salehuddin said Bangladesh is hopeful of receiving the fourth and fifth tranches together.

He noted that the IMF delegation emphasized the need to raise the tax-to-GDP ratio, recover defaulted loans, and implement reforms in the banking sector.

“The team is currently assessing the country’s progress on the reforms outlined in the IMF loan program,” he added.
