Ten expatriates, who were detained in Saudi Arabia following the Awami League government's downfall during the July-August uprising in Bangladesh, have returned home.

A Saudi Airlines flight carrying them landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Thursday.

According to sources, on August 5 last year, when then-prime minister Sheikh Hasina was ousted from power following the student-public movement, Bangladeshis residing in Saudi Arabia celebrated the event with a feast.

Subsequently, Saudi Arabia law enforcement detained 12 individuals from the gathering.

After spending eight months in prison, Saudi Arabia authorities have repatriated 10 of them.

The remaining two will return later due to passport expiration and complications with necessary documents.
