As the Eid holidays come to an end, many working people have started returning to Dhaka, while those who could not travel earlier due to work are now heading to their hometowns.
The rush continued at the capital’s Kamalapur Railway Station on Thursday, the fourth day of Eid.
A visit to the station in the morning revealed a larger number of passengers leaving Dhaka than arriving.
Platforms were crowded with people waiting for their scheduled trains.
According to railway officials, 12 trains had departed Kamalapur for various destinations between early morning and 10am.
While trains were running on schedule despite the passenger surge, the exact number of inbound trains arriving in Dhaka was yet to be confirmed.
Officials also noted that advance tickets for post-Eid returns had been sold out, ensuring smooth travel.
However, with many people still returning to work, the pressure on stations was expected to persist for a few more days.
Many passengers said they were finally able to travel after missing Eid celebrations due to work commitments.
"I was busy during Eid, so I could not visit home. Now, with a short break, I am going to see my family," said Rafiqul Islam.
Ahad, a restaurant worker in Dhaka, echoed the sentiment. "Eid is a busy time for us, so I had to stay. Now, I finally have a chance to go home and spend time with my family," he said.
Meanwhile, those returning to the capital reported no major difficulties, though trains were fully packed with passengers.
