Additionally, workers in 723 factories have not received their Eid bonuses

With Eid approaching, many garment workers remain unpaid as 122 factories in the ready-made garment and textile sector have yet to clear February's wages, according to Industrial Police data.

Additionally, workers in 723 factories have not received their Eid bonuses.

The Industrial Police report states that out of 2,890 garment factories under BGMEA, BKMEA, BTMA, and BEPZA, a total of 2,768 have paid February's wages.

However, 30 factories still have outstanding wages from January or earlier, it added.

Meanwhile, to assist workers, 422 factories have paid half of March's wages in advance, the report said.

Although labor laws mandate that wages must be paid within the first seven working days of the following month, many factories are not complying with this regulation.

According to Industrial Police data, 2,167 factories have already paid Eid-ul-Fitr bonuses.

However, 723 factories—around 25% of the total—have yet to distribute the bonuses.

Additionally, out of 9,695 industrial factories in the country, 6,673 have paid Eid bonuses, while wages for March remain unpaid in 7,860 factories.
