Ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, four state-owned banks—Sonali, Janata, Agrani, and Rupali—will remain open for two hours on Friday to facilitate the payment of salaries and allowances to teachers and staff of MPO-enlisted private educational institutions.
Bangladesh Bank issued a circular regarding this matter on Thursday.
According to the circular, although Friday is a public holiday, these four banks will operate on a limited scale from 10:00am to 12:00pm. However, office activities at the banks will continue until 3:00pm. Due to Friday prayers, there will be a break from 1:00pm to 2:00pm.
This directive has been issued in the public interest under the authority granted by Section 45 of the Bank Company Act, 1991. It has also been stated that officers and employees on duty that day will receive allowances as per regulations.
The government has taken this special measure to ensure the payment of salaries and allowances to private teachers before Eid.
