The Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested truck driver Md Titon Islam in connection with a road accident in Banani that killed a female RMG worker on Monday.
A DB team apprehended him on Monday night through technological surveillance and data analysis, confirmed DMP Deputy Commissioner (Public Relations) Mohammad Talebur Rahman.
Earlier that morning, a garment worker was killed, and another woman was injured when a speeding truck lost control and hit them while they were crossing the road in Banani. Eyewitnesses reported that the truck fled the scene immediately after the incident.
Police have filed a case against the driver at Banani police station and are questioning him. Investigators are also looking into possible causes, including reckless driving, license violations, or drug use.
A DB official said: "We are using technology to quickly identify those responsible for road accidents. Stricter traffic management measures will be enforced to prevent such incidents in the future."
Meanwhile, the victim’s family has demanded swift legal action and justice.
