Update : 06 Mar 2025, 09:48 PM

The University of Dhaka has introduced new measures to identify female students wearing hijabs or niqabs.

While considering biometric identification, the administration has temporarily instructed that such students be identified by female teachers, officials, or staff members.

The decision was made during a Deans’ Committee meeting held on Thursday, in the vice chancellor’s conference room, said a press release issued by the university.

The meeting was chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Niaz Ahmad Khan.

Considering personal freedom and privacy, the university has decided to have female teachers, officials, or staff verify the identities of students wearing niqabs or hijabs, said the press release.

If needed, female assistant proctors will assist in the identification process. The feasibility of introducing fingerprint or biometric verification will be assessed in due course, it added.
