After preparations are complete, BNP's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman plans to return to Bangladesh after Khaleda Zia’s return.
At present, he intends to come back at the end of April.
On the other hand, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is expected to return after consulting her doctors following Eid-ul-Fitr, according to a source close to Tarique Rahman in London.
Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, Begum Khaleda Zia's physician and a member of the party's standing committee, confirmed that Tarique Rahman will indeed return to Bangladesh before the next parliamentary elections.
Speaking on Tuesday, Dr Zahid mentioned that it’s merely a matter of time before Tarique Rahman returns. "Insha Allah, he will return soon," he said during the Iftar and Dua Mahfil jointly organized by Birmingham West Midlands BNP and Birmingham City BNP in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
At a separate event on Monday night in London, organized by the Zia Council UK, Dr Zahid further said that Khaleda Zia will return to Bangladesh very soon, as per her doctor’s advice.
UK BNP President and member of the chairperson's advisory council, MA Malek, responded to a query regarding whether both Begum Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman could return together after Ramadan.
He explained that such a scenario could cause Dhaka to become overwhelmed by the influx of supporters, with millions of people filling the streets to welcome Begum Zia. Malek suggested that Tarique Rahman is likely to return after Khaleda Zia’s return.
When asked about the timing of the returns, UK BNP General Secretary Koysar M Ahmed said that the decision depends on the party and the leaders themselves.
Nashir Ahmed Shahin, President of the United Kingdom Swechhasebak Dal, expressed that Begum Khaleda Zia hopes to return as soon as possible, likely within a week after Eid. He assured that once the return date for Tarique Rahman is finalized, the journalists will be the first to know.
