Martyred status granted to army officers killed in BDR carnage

The army officers killed in the BDR mutiny at Pilkhana are being granted the status of martyrs.

This decision was made in a meeting of the Advisory Council on Tuesday.

On February 23, the government announced in a gazette notification issued by the Cabinet Division that February 25 would be observed annually as "National Martyred Army Officers Day."

On February 25, 2009, a mutiny and brutal massacre took place at Pilkhana (then Bangladesh Rifles - BDR) in the capital, where 74 people, including 57 valiant army officers, were martyred. They are now set to receive the status of martyrs.
