The government has renamed four highways and eight bridges, all of which were named after the names of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her family.
The Road Transport and Bridges Ministry issued a notification in this regard on Monday.
According to the notice, the Dhaka-Mawa Highway, which was known as the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Expressway, has been renamed as “Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga Expressway” while Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Highway in Sylhet was renamed as “Airport Bypass Intersection-Lalbagh-Salutikar-Companiganj-Bholaganj National Highway”.
Besides, Sheikh Hasina Highway, from Madaripur to Shariatpur has been renamed as “Kazirtek Bridge-Shariatpur Highway” while Sheikh Hasina Sarani was renamed as “Borotakia (Abu Torab) Mirsarai Economic Zone Connecting Road”.
Meanwhile, Wazed Mia Bridge in Pirganj upazila was renamed as “Kachdah Bridge”, Sheikh Kamal Bridge in Patuakhali was renamed as “Andar Manik Bridge”, Sheikh Jamal Bridge in Patuakhali was renamed as “Sonatala Bridge”, Sheikh Russel Bridge was renamed as “Khaprabhanga Bridge”, Shaheed Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Bridge in Pirojpur was renamed as “Indurkani Bridge”, Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib 8th Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge in Pirojpur was renamed as “Bekutia Bridge”, Sultana Kamal Bridge in Narayanganj was renamed as “Demra Bridge” and Shaheed Abdur Rab Serniabat Bridge in Barisal renamed as “Dapdapia Bridge”.
