Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki has said the upcoming Pohela Boishakh (Bangla New Year) celebrations will be conducted appropriately, just as in previous years.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday after the conclusion of a session at the District Commissioners’ Conference at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital, Farooki said there has been propaganda claiming a decline in the practice of arts and literature.

However, he emphasized that numerous cultural events are currently being held and Pohela Boishakh remains one of the largest festivals for Bengalees.

"Just as it has been celebrated in the past, it will be celebrated this year as well," he remarked.

He acknowledged that while some cultural activities have been obstructed in certain areas, many events are being successfully held.

"Wherever there are problems, we are working on solutions," he added.

In response to a query regarding the cancellation of a theatre festival, Farooki clarified that there was no government involvement in the decision.

"It was stopped based on complaints from the theatre community themselves. No specific group or community was involved, nor is the government connected to it," he explained.

He further emphasized that not all activities need to be announced publicly, saying: "I do many things behind the scenes without announcing them on social media. It is not necessary to seek credit for every action. Many people will speak on social media, but we cannot respond to everything from critical state positions."

When asked whether any directive has been issued to publicize the July uprising, Farooki said several documentaries on the topic have been created and are being circulated through the local administration and the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
