The interim government has issued an ordinance to rename 14 universities previously named after Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s family.
On Wednesday, the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs published a gazette announcing the decision.
The gazette stated that having similar names for multiple public universities has caused confusion.
To address this, changes to certain university laws were necessary to clarify their names and locations.
With Parliament dissolved, the president exercised his authority under Article 93(1) of Bangladesh’s Constitution to issue and enforce the ordinance.
