Govt employees demand swift ninth pay scale implementation

Additionally, they demand the pension rate to be raised from 90% to 100%

Update : 07 Feb 2025, 05:32 PM

The '11-20 Grade Government Employees National Forum' has placed five demands, including the swift announcement of the ninth pay scale.

These demands were presented at a press conference held on Friday at the Maulana Mohammad Akram Khan Hall of the Jatiya Press Club.

The forum’s president, Md Mirajul Islam, read out a written statement outlining the demands.

Implementation of the ninth pay scale

The government should form a ninth pay commission immediately to eliminate existing salary disparities and declare the ninth pay scale.

Until then, a minimum of 50% dearness allowance should be provided, the number of pay grades should be reduced, and representatives from the 11-20 grade employees must be included in the implementation committee.

Reinstatement of time scale and selection grade

The government should restore the time scale and selection grade while revising inconsistent recruitment rules, upgrading educational qualifications, and introducing a unified recruitment policy.

Elimination of block post system

The block post system should be abolished to ensure equal promotions across all positions.

Additionally, the outsourcing system must be discontinued.

Equal benefits as Secretariat employees

Employees of all offices, departments, directorates, autonomous bodies, and corporations should receive the same job titles and grades as Secretariat employees.

Allowances such as house rent, medical, meal, transport, and education benefits should be increased in line with current market conditions.

Increase in pension and risk allowance

The pension rate should be raised from 90% to 100%, and risk allowances should be provided to all employees engaged in hazardous work.

Employees in technical roles must receive a technical scale, and overtime allowances should be provided for additional work.

Furthermore, the current pension commutation should be fully implemented, and the nominal Tk50 ration allowance in Bangladesh Railway should be replaced with a market-adjusted ration system for all 11-20 grade employees.
