The head of the Media Reform Commission Kamal Ahmed has said that ensuring financial security for journalists is crucial to upholding their dignity.
He made the statement on Tuesday while speaking with journalists at the Shilpakala Academy auditorium in Mymensingh division.
“The commission's task is to propose recommendations for establishing a free, objective, and robust media landscape. Financial security is essential for fostering independent journalism, enabling reporters to work without constraints,” Kamal Ahmed said.
He urged journalists to pressurise the government to implement the commission's recommendations, noting that such measures are unlikely to be adopted without consistent advocacy.
Highlighting the importance of unity among journalists, Kamal Ahmed clarified that the wage board issue falls outside the commission’s jurisdiction.
He added that the recommendations would incorporate feedback from media consumers, as a nationwide National Media Survey was conducted from January 1 to 7, involving around 45,000 participants.
