DU-7 colleges' clash: 20 injured admitted to DMCH

The situation escalated at Science Lab, leading to a chase and counter-chase between the two groups, creating significant tension

During clashes between students of Dhaka University (DU) and the seven affiliated colleges, around 20 individuals, including pedestrians and journalists, were injured and admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Sunday night.

The injured include Ripon Chowdhury, Irfan, 20, pedestrian Ujjal, 32, Ashraf, 20, Mehedi, 23, Faisal Ahmed, 22, Saad, 22, Hridoy,23, Mahin, 22, Ismail, Imtiaz, Tofayel Ahmed (Bangladesh Times), Ujjal, 25, Ibrahim, 23, Rishad, 23, Miraz, 23, Amanullah, 22, Himu, 23, Sabbir Hossain, 24, and Rakib, 24.

Inspector Md Faruk, in charge of the DMCH police outpost, confirmed the matter on Monday.

He further said that of the 20 injured, three are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital, while the rest have been discharged after receiving medical care.

The clashes occurred on Sunday around 11pm when DU students attempted to move toward the Pro-Vice Chancellor’s bungalow following allegations of misconduct by DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Mamun Ahmed towards students of the affiliated colleges.

At least 20 people were injured during the incident, and police resorted to using sound grenades to bring the situation under control.
